Donating to Beyond the Desk will benefit five students in its first year. It will allow these students to try something they might never would have had access to before. The program will give students access to opportunities at Shaker Heights High School that a majority of the population has access to -- but not all. In a community like Shaker, we would like to see the schools and all of their wonderful attributes being accessible to all of Shaker's students. It is hoped that Beyond the Desk will help continue to build
Shaker's reputation as a place where all students have access to opportunities even kids in private schools never see.
In its pilot year, Beyond the Desk will seek to improve itself for everyone involved in the program. Moreover, it is hoped that the program will be seen as something that can be copied in other districts, expanding this opportunity for even more socioeconomically disadvantaged students.
