Coverage in The Shakerite interviewed founder Marcia Brown and co-director Mica Jordan in an article headline “Working on Access for All.” Dean of Student Jon Moorehead, a member of our selection committee, said in the article that “Even if it’s not perfect, I think it’s a start. Sometimes you just gotta try.”
In another Shakerite article, Beyond the Desk is noted as part of a larger effort by the school district to ameliorate inequality among its students. The article notes the racial and socioeconomic disparities in Shaker schools and efforts to remedy them.
